Rowan is a third-year student in honours animal biology, and aims to advocate for science students as ISSS’ 2018-2019 VP Academic. She has been involved with ISSS for the past two years, having served as a Second-Year Councillor, Third-Year Councillor, and two-time Director. As the Director of Student Representation, she co-founded the BioSci Departmental Association Planning Team and helped form the Biology Students’ Departmental Association. As the Director of COSSA, she managed a granting program for over 20 science-related student groups on campus. Rowan is also the acting President of ZooManiacs, a past Mentorship Coordinator for UA-WiSE, and a past member of advisory committees for the Office of the Registrar and U of A libraries. These positions familiarized Rowan with the diversity and complexity of science students’ needs, interests, and experiences. They also strengthened her commitment to student representation.

Rowan’s passions for interdisciplinary science, accountable and transparent governance, and community building motivate her campaign for VP Academic. She is particularly interested in increasing accessibility to academic and mental health services, mentorship, and research experiences within the Faculty of Science. If elected, she will prioritize these areas. Above all, Rowan aims to represent the diverse interests of all science students.
