The ISSS is responsible for putting on the Faculty Reception Barbecue which warmly introduces incoming science students to the Faculty of Science at the University of Alberta. It is the first real chance that students have to interact with others who were not in their Orientation groups, and meet acquaintances whom they will likely see across campus and in their classes.
The ISSS’s role is to provide students with a free meal, to ensure that they feel they belong in the largest faculty on campus, and to ease their transition into the university atmosphere. It also provides an excellent opportunity for the students to familiarize themselves with the ISSS for the first time, providing them with a little information on who the ISSS is and what the ISSS does. On top of this, Faculty Administrators are present at the barbecue to interact with the students.
We look forward to a successful event on Tuesday, September 2rd, 2014! The BBQ will start at 5:00PM and last burgers will be served at 6:00PM, at which time students head off to President’s Address in Hawrelak Park.
All first-year students are welcome to attend. Even if you did not register for the SU Orientation, we would love to have you!
