The Director of Membership Fees will oversee the Awards Committee to provide Scholarships and Professional Development Grants. They will also help to communicate the value of SCI 5 to students and maintain the image of SCI 5. Finally, they will help to review the SCI 5 and make suggestions for future referendums to ensure that students get the most out of their investment.

Third Year Councillor Application

Appointed by a replenishment committee until the September by-elections, the candidate will fulfill all duties required of a Councillor.

ISSSER Application

Applications have been extended for the ISSS Elections Representative – the ISSS’s only paid position that helps manage the ISSS’s September and March elections. Responsible for keeping the our elections fair and democratic, the ISSSER is closely involved with all aspects of the elections process. Ideal candidates are able to work well individually, can communicate exceptionally well, and have a strong sense of fairness.

Graduating this year? Get your grad rings with Jostens in Chemistry East Hallway on March 19, 21, and 22 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Also, don’t forget to book an appointment to take your grad photos. You can book them here! Photography sessions will occur from March 25 to April 9 in Bio Sci CW 229.

March Elections!

ISSS Elections are fast approaching! The March Elections will be an opportunity for students to run for all 6 ISSS Executive and 6 of our Council positions. Come to the Campaign and Elections Information Workshop in CCIS 1-160 Monday, March 4, 2013 at 5:00pm. This is a great opportunity to get more involved with the ISSS and really make a difference in the Faculty of Science!

Voting will take place on March 21 and 22, 2013. ANY undergraduate science student is eligible and encouraged to run for a position.

Vote ‘Yes’ for SCI 5

SCI 5, or Your-Five Dollar Science Community Investment, is a proposed membership fee levied to registered undergraduate science students at the University of Alberta. The SCI 5 will allow the ISSS to better fulfill our mandate. The purpose of the proposal is to offer undergraduate Science students the opportunity to pay a membership fee for improved events, services, advocacy efforts, and support for Departmental and Program Associations.

Last year, the ISSS brought forward a membership fee proposal that ultimately failed by a very slim margin. The proposal last year had 42 smaller and unevenly distributed allocations, which did not end up resonating with many students. This year, we have 14 much more evenly distributed allocations that each strive to provide direct value to science students.

The ISSS would encourage you to check out www.sci5.ca for a list of where the money will be allocated. Please email Jessica Nguyen, Director of Membership Fees, at sci5@isss.ca with any questions or concerns, and remember to vote “yes” for SCI 5 on March 6 and 7 at www.su.ualberta.ca/vote.

COSSA Granting!

The third and last round of COSSA granting is coming up, so any COSSA group interested in obtaining up to $750 in an initiatives grant or $250 in a resource grant should apply by February 28, 2012.
