The ISSS will be awarding multiple SCI 5 Scholarships worth more than $15,000 to students who demonstrate exceptional academic achievement, innovation, and extracurricular involvement. Students must have paid SCI 5 to be eligible.
Description of Awards

Outstanding Achievement in Science Scholarship

Up to five (5) scholarships valued at $750.00 each.

Candidates must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5 and must have taken a minimum of twenty-four (*24) credits toward their current undergraduate degree by the end of the Winter term.

Candidates must be enrolled full-time (according to the University of Alberta definition) in the current academic year.

Special consideration will be given to well-rounded students with strong academic achievement, extracurricular involvement, and recommendation letters.

Science Involvement Scholarship

Up to four (4) scholarships valued at $750.00 each.

Candidates must have contributed their time to supporting the greater science community.

Candidates must demonstrate a combination of volunteerism and leadership.

Preference will be given to students who are involved with a recognized COSSA group.

Candidates must be in satisfactory academic standing (according to the University of Alberta definitions).
The Future of Science Scholarship

Up to five (5) scholarships valued at $1000.00 each.

Candidates must create a creative and original essay to one of the provided prompts.

Candidates should demonstrate interest in research and discovery within Science.

Candidates must be in satisfactory academic standing (according to the University of Alberta definitions).
Women in Science Scholarship

Up to five (5) scholarships valued at $1000.00 each.

Candidates must identify as female.

Candidates must create a creative and original essay to one of the provided prompts.

Candidates should be able to illustrate current inequities and potential avenues of growth for women in science, based on their own personal experiences.

Candidates must be in satisfactory academic standing (according to the University of Alberta definitions).

SCI 5 Professional Development Grants
In a 2012-2013 referendum, Science students voted for the SCI 5 proposal which allowed for the creation of SCI 5 Professional Development grants. These grants help to enable undergraduate students within the Faculty of Science to attend conferences
which aid in their professional development. For the 2023-2024 year, there are $3000 worth of PD grants available, and each student, if selected, is eligible for a maximum amount of $1000.

Grants are only awarded to activities that occur before the end of August 31st.

Grants are NOT awarded to certain activities including:

Activities where participants receive academic credit.

Activities organized by student groups.

Students are only eligible to receive up to one grant per degree.
