Scholarships

Scholarships are funded by Sci 5

The ISSS will be awarding twelve (12) SCI 5 Scholarships in 2020 to students who demonstrate exceptional academic achievement, innovation and extracurricular involvement. Students must be Members who have paid SCI 5 to be eligible. The awards descriptions can be located below.

Description of Awards

Science Involvement Scholarship (5)

  • Four (4) scholarships valued at $500.00.
  • Candidates must be verified as having contributed their time to supporting the greater science community.
  • Candidates must demonstrate a combination of volunteerism and leadership.
  • Preference will be given to students who are involved with a recognized COSSA group.
  • Candidates must be in satisfactory academic standing (according to the University of Alberta definitions)..

Outstanding Achievement in Science Scholarship (5)

  • Four (4) scholarships valued at $500.00.
  • Candidates must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5 and have taken a minimum of twenty-four (*24) credits toward their current undergraduate degree.
  • Candidates must be enrolled full-time (according to the University of Alberta definition) in the current academic year.
  • Special consideration will be given to well-rounded students with strong academic achievement, extracurricular involvement, and recommendation letters.

The Future of Science Scholarship (5)

  • Four (4) scholarships valued at $1000.00 each.
  • Candidates must create a creative and original essay to one of the provided prompts.
  • Candidates should demonstrate interest in research and discovery within Science.
  • Candidates must be in satisfactory academic standing (according to the University of Alberta definitions).

How to Apply

  • Deadline for application is Monday, March 2nd, 2020 @ 4 PM.

PD Grants will NOT be awarded to activities including:

  • Activities where participants receive academic credit
  • Activities organized by student groups
